After several months of struggling with a chair that didn’t fit properly and was extremely heavy, I made an appointment with Peter at EPC. I was delighted with the assessment and came away having ordered a Quickie Helium wheelchair. I won’t go over the choices as Dominic covered this in the main review but i chose the following specification after much discussion and advice from Peter.
Matt Black Frame
Jay Easy Visco Cushion
EPC Seat Pouch
Fold Down Push Handles
Exo Pro Breathable adjustable upholstery
Slim Carbon Fibre Side Guards
Platform adjustable composite footplate
88deg frame angle with 3cm inset
narrow caster position
5inch Soft Roll ally Castors
25inch Synergy Wheels
Marathon Plus Tyres
Surge LT handrims
with a zero degree camber.
I then informed I had a 6-8 week wait for it to arrive.
6 weeks later the chair arrived and I have to say after two weeks of use it has surpassed my expectations. I have a wheelchair that is light at around the 6kg mark without the wheels but also it feels part of my body. It goes through doors and the synergy wheels means it rolls superbly with minimal effort. The build quality is excellent and everything is adjustable so once I adjusted the back upholstery tension to my requirements and the footplate exactly right i have what I believe for my requirements to be the perfect chair. Please don’t be put off by the aforementioned adjustments it’s the equivalent of getting the driving seat comfortable when you sit in a new car. The only change I have made is to remove the stickers as I found these to be a bit to much bling for my taste but these were easy to peel off with no damage to the chair. I am extremely pleased with the black and chrome look. I have travelled in cars and taxis with my chairs without issue. The quick release wheels and folding back mean it’s easy to get into vehicles. The expo pro upholstery means I never seem to get sweaty and the underseat pouch is well worth the money. This chair has quite simply given me my life back and I cannot rate it highly enough. With all the choices available though I would highly recommend finding someone who can talk these through with you objectively I know I certainly benefitted from this.
